A retrospective documentary looking back 25 years to the making of one of the most significant youth films to emerge in the UK. The documentary tells it as it happened from Franc Roddam's point of view, with contributions from the cast, including Phil Daniels, Mark Wingett and Toyah. It's interesting because it's genuine 'from the horse's mouth' background - find out why John Lydon just missed out on the Jimmy role, how the cast got their 'training' in what the 60s mod scene was all about, who trained them to dance, why Sting couldn't dance (or ride a scooter) and much more.

"We Are the Mods": A Transnational History of a Youth Subculture
"We Are the Mods", by Christine Jacqueline Feldman draws on archival research, oral history interviews, and participant observation, this examination of the adoption and adaptation of Mod style across geographic space also maps its various interpretations over time, from the early 1960s to the present. The book traces the Mod youth culture from its genesis in the dimly lit clubs of Londons Soho, where it began as a way for young people to reconfigure modernity after the chaos of World War II, to its contemporary, country-specific expressions. By examining Mod culture in the United States, Germany, and Japan alongside the United Kingdom, We Are the Mods contrasts the postwar development of Mod in those countries that lost the war with those that won. The book illuminates the cultures fashion, music, iconography, and gender aesthetics, to create a compelling portrait of a transnational subculture.

SoulBoy
1974. Power cuts, strikes and boot-boy aggro on the terraces. Flares, Chopper bikes and beer at fourteen pence a pint. Joe McCain, 17 and restless, is bored with the flatline tedium of a life that seems like it's going nowhere. Enter Jane, moving to the beat of a music that Joe's never heard, a vision of loveliness who opens the door to a whole world of sound, movement and all-nighter dancing at The Wigan Casino - the home of Northern Soul! Swept along on this tide of pulsating dance and lust, Joe finally finds somewhere he belongs and the acceptance and true love he yearns for, he becomes a soulboy!
